The Night Before - Take some time to create an area in your home where your pet can recover. For good hygiene and reduced chances of infection, you can bathe your pet and wash their bedding the day before. Prepare their crate as you may have to keep your dog or cat separate from other pets in the home. Make sure any medications are packed and ready to go for the morning.
The Morning of Surgery
- The most important thing you can do the morning of your pet’s surgery is to make sure they do not have any food or water. Generally, pets are dropped off early in the morning so additional testing can be done, if necessary.
After Surgery
- We will provide you with a detailed plan on how to care for your pet after surgery. There may be medications given to help with pain and to reduce the risk of infection. If an incision was made, an E-collar may be placed on your pet. Following the post-op instructions will ensure your pet makes a full recovery. If you notice any signs of discomfort or unusual behavior,
call us as soon as possible.
